About Me
My name is Hannah Gilcrist
I've been a "horse girl" for over 23 years. My love for these giant creatures began when I lived out in Henderson, Nevada; just outside of Las Vegas. A fabulous arena, named Horseman's Park, sat just at the end of my street, and we would walk to go watch the different rodeos and horse shows on the weekend. Sometimes, we would even take a ride over during the evenings and go visit the mounted patrol horses! For my 5th birthday, we celebrated at a farm, and the highlight was helping the woman drive a wagon with all of my friends in the back. I was hooked.
Soon after, I moved back to New York. Fast forward a couple of years, and I met my still-best friend, Elexis; we were both in 3rd grade, and not only did she ride, but she OWNED a horse. How cool was that?! I had my next birthday party at her riding stable, and promptly began my riding career after.
One week after my 11th birthday, January 1st, 2005, I was hit by a drunk driver while riding a horse on the shoulder of the road. The horse that I was riding sadly did not survive, and I was nearly killed, having to be mercy flighted with a severe concussion (always wear your helmet, kids!), broken wrist, broken nose, broken top jaw (in 2 places), and a grade 3 lacerated liver. I thought my riding career was over.
6 weeks later, my friend who had also been involved with the accident invited me to the new barn where she had her horses, to watch her ride. Little did I know, it was a ploy to get me back in the saddle, even with my casted arm. I was terrified to get on, but once I was up, it felt like I was home again.
In 2020, my fiance and I began looking for houses to buy with some property for my 2 horses. Everything that we looked at either needed too much work, or we were getting outbid by 30-40k. It was insane.
In the early spring of 2021, a fellow horsewoman sent me a real estate listing for a horse farm for sale by owner. The same horse farm that I rode at for the first time after my accident. Something just seemed right about this place, like it was meant to be. We took a chance and put an offer in, and to our surprise, it was accepted!
We moved in a few months later, and Trickle Creek Farm was born.
I started off riding english, and still base my foundations on english riding. About 2 years later, I switched to western, with a focus on barrel racing, and have not looked back; however, I just started taking jumping lessons - it's never too late to learn something new!
I have a passion for barrel racing, and my goal is to help riders learn that barrel racing is much more than "run fast and turn the barrels". There is so much more horsemanship that goes into it, and I want to help create happy horses and successful riders.
